1st NAVIO Robotics Instructional Course

Course Description
This course is designed to provide practicing Knee Arthroplasty Surgeons with intensive instructional and hands-on experience detailing the current trends and advances in Robotic Knee Surgery using Smith & Nephew NAVIO™ Surgical System, LEGION™, GENESIS™ II and JOURNEY™ II TKA Knee System.

This Instructional course is a thorough and systematic teaching program that includes lectures, debates and cadaver workshops.
Attendees will be actively encouraged to engage in the debates and discussions, interact with the faculty, and participate fully in the cadaveric worksh ops. We look forward to your attendance at this high -level educational course.

Learning Objectives
As a future Robotic user, the participant will be attending this course to be:
• Trained on the safe and effective use of the NAVIO Robotic technology
• Coached by Internationally NAVIO Robotic technology experts
• Certified as a future NAVIO Robotic user before conducting the first patient cases
• Discussing the benefits of Robotic orthopaedic surgeries
• Understanding and experiencing the software planning of the burring phase

• Course attendance will be approved based on “profile matching” and course seat availability

Dr. Gittins is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon who received his bachelor’s degree from Anderson University in Indiana and attended medical school at Kirksville College for Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri. Dr. Gittins holds privileges at New Albany Surgical Hospital and St. Ann’s Hospital, and is currently on the board of AOAO. Dr. Gittins interests include arthritis surgery, total joint replacement, knee joint vibrations, ACL reconstruction, arthroscopy, sports medicine and orthopedic surgical outcomes.

Ben Jeffcote is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon who was born in the UK and studied medicine both in the UK and Australia. He entered the Orthopaedic Training Program in Western Australia in 2003. During training he completed an AOA research fellowship in biomechanics of the knee. He has been in private practice at since 2009 and has chaired the Orthopaedic Surgery Craft Group at St John of God Hospital, Murdoch, since 2014. He has undertaken research projects on knee replacement biomechanics, knee ligament balance and patellofemoral kinematics. His current research interests include Navio techniques in knee cartilage reconstruction; Outcomes of arthroscopic meniscal surgery; and Impact of robotic assistance on partial knee arthroplasty.

Dr. Ashok Rajgopal is the first Orthopaedic surgeon in India to perform virtual total knee replacement surgery using Patient Specific Instruments. Correct alignment is of prime importance in ensuring the longevity and correct functioning of the knee joint. This first of its kind surgery in India combines advancements in instrument technology with proven orthopaedic alignment principles in order to give the best fit possible. This is done by doing an MRI scan of the affected knee joint which enables us to view the joint in its purest anatomical form to develop a customised surgical plan and size for each individual. Predetermined implant sizing eliminates multiple instruments and trials without compromising the surgeons decision making surgical technique and intraoperative flexibility.
